Wuliang Mountain in Nanjian, Dali: Explore the Mountain Scenery, Make Wuliang Tea, Visit Ancient Trees, and Watch Flying Birds

SixianqiuSixianqiuTravel Log2 years ago11387

Wuliang Mountain is named for its majestic and vast mountain range. In ancient times, it was called Mengle Mountain, and it was named "Wuliang" (meaning immeasurable) because it is "so high that it cannot be climbed, and so vast that it cannot be measured." The name Wuliang Mountain symbolizes its boundless mountain body and towering peaks, giving a sense of immeasurability.

一、Explore the Mountain Scenery

Wuliang Mountain is located in the southwestern part of Yunnan Province, belonging to the western branch of the Yunling Range of the Hengduan Mountains. It serves as the watershed between the Chuan River to the east and the Lancang River to the west. The mountain range runs northwest-southeast, with the main peak, Bijia Mountain, located in Jingdong County at an altitude of 3,374 meters. The majestic mountain terrain and rich natural landscapes make it a unique geographical landmark.

二、Make Wuliang Tea

Making tea was an important part of this trip. A young Spanish man named Fei Yingjie likes to drink Pu'er tea and was very curious about the tea-making process. An old master showed him the complete tea-making process, and he was delighted to have personally participated in making tea, feeling that this made the trip complete.

三、Visit Ancient Trees

Led by villagers from Laobuju Village of Wuliangshan Village Committee, we found two unique ancient trees in the village. One of them is locally called the "mutant tree" because it has two different types of leaves. Upon closer inspection, this ancient tree of unknown age not only has some branches with serrated hard leaves of the cork oak, but the leaves on the northern high part are soft, and there is also a branch with nearly round, smaller leaves, different from the other two types of broad elliptical leaves.

Another ancient tree is a thick and tall Yunnan pine, which the villagers call the welcoming pine. It is over a thousand years old and about 20 meters tall. It is said that long ago, there was a large flat area around this 1,000-year-old Yunnan pine that could accommodate more than 100 people. Young men and women liked to gather under the tree for all-night singing and dancing, with songs lasting all night. The villagers say it is a sacred tree; if a branch breaks in a certain direction, it indicates that a family in that direction will face disaster, so the villagers hold this tree in great reverence.

四、Watch Flying Birds

In addition to the two amazing ancient trees, the rich birdlife in the deep mountain forests was also a target of our trip. Xiaojun and her husband Fei Yingjie are both bird enthusiasts. Wuliang Mountain is teeming with birds, and the forests by the mountainside are filled with various bird calls, like a bird market. They lingered there, forgetting to return. Xiaojun said that through binoculars, you can clearly see the colorful feathers of the birds, which is a very healing experience.

"Eyes follow the returning swan, hands strum the five strings." Always seeking, in this unrecognizable mortal world, a path as carefree as drifting clouds and wild cranes. Fortunately, there lies an ocean of poetry and lyrics, which has gifted me boundless beauty. Often, I sail upon it, quietly savoring that beauty. Even more fortunate are those standing on the shore — who cherish the beauty I cherish, and keep me free from hunger and cold, allowing me to devote myself wholly to this joy.
