Zaran (Tie-Dye) is a thousand-year-old Bai ethnic handicraft from Dali. White fabric is stitched and bound into intricate patterns, then repeatedly dipped in natural indigo dye made from banlangen (isatis root). Once unbound, each piece reveals a unique blue-and-white design — no two are ever alike. It is the most iconic intangible cultural heritage craft beneath Cangshan Mountain and along the shores of Erhai Lake.
